HOANG THAI THANH THEATRE: RAU RAM O LAI

Inspired by the short story Oi Cai Ve Dau! by Vietnamese writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Rau Ram O Lai tells the story of Nam Nho, a man who sets out to find his wife's child, who ran away from home at the age of eight.

After losing a water buffalo, Cai leaves home and disappears. Nam Nho loves the child dearly and devotes himself to searching for Cai, yet he is unfairly blamed for treating the child badly. More than ten years pass, but he continues wandering from place to place, carrying a sign that reads “Cai oi ma cho” (Cai, your mother is waiting), hoping to bring the child home one day.

Along the way, he meets others with their own stories and struggles. There is Quach Phu Than, an ice cream seller who loves singing and is determined to pursue his dream; Diem Thuong, a girl abandoned as a newborn; and Hue, a woman carrying her own unspoken heartache. Though strangers at first, they gradually find comfort and connection through kindness and compassion amid life's many hardships.

With moving moments and stories rooted in the everyday life of Vietnam's Mekong Delta, Rau Ram O Lai explores family bonds, longing, and the kind of love that often goes unspoken. Through the performances of Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoi, Ai Nhu, and the talented cast, the play takes audiences on an emotional journey that lingers long after the curtain falls.
