Event Details

The Burned Book is a play inspired by stories of soldiers and wartime memories from the Truong Son mountain range. Beginning with a manuscript that was deliberately burned, the play unfolds a story of love, friendship, greed, and memories that were thought to have been buried in the past.

What makes The Burned Book intriguing?

The story begins when Vu Lam, the director of a publishing house, decides to burn a manuscript about soldiers who sacrificed their youth for their country.

He believes that the stories within the manuscript will disappear with the flames. Instead, his actions unintentionally bring the past back to life.

Behind the pages lies a story of people who once met during wartime, unfinished love stories, and choices that changed their lives forever. As the manuscript is restored, memories that seemed to have faded away begin to return in vivid detail.

When a manuscript brings the past back to life

One of the central storylines in The Burned Book revolves around Hang and Hiep.

Hang once believed that Hiep, her first love, had died during the war. She later agreed to marry Vu Lam, Hiep's close friend.

But what seemed to be the end was never truly over.

After discovering the truth behind the manuscript, Hang decides to help its owner restore the original version while confronting the ambitions and greed of the very man she married.

Meanwhile, Hiep, who was seriously injured during the war, drifts to the coastal area of Phuoc Hai. There, he encounters traces of his past and reconnects with Tham, a female soldier he once met in Truong Son.

From seemingly coincidental encounters, the stories of Lam, Hiep, Hang, and the women of Quan Tien in Truong Son gradually unfold.

A story of war, love, and memories that cannot be forgotten

What makes The Burned Book stand out is not only its romantic storyline but also the way the play brings wartime memories back to the stage.

The soldiers who lived through the war carried with them loss, love, and promises they never had the chance to fulfill. Meanwhile, those who remained behind had to continue living with memories that were not easy to put into words.

Through the characters' stories, the play explores themes of love, sacrifice, loyalty, and the way people confront their past.

A manuscript can be burned, but the stories and memories behind it cannot be easily erased.

The Burned Book is a compelling choice for audiences who enjoy emotional plays that combine love stories, wartime memories, and long-hidden secrets gradually coming to light.
